Back from the ER

I started off at the pedi's this am which is a complete waste of time b/c they see Avery's chart and immediately want to send him to the ER no matter the symptoms which is pretty frustrating. He actually looks pretty good just a bit tired and breathing rapidly. We go the the ER and they easily access his port (meaning put the needle in it) and draw labs which I have to walk them through which ones. They also do a chest x-ray. After waiting a couple of hrs I am getting inpatient and ready to leave I ask the dr. what's going on and he finally looks at things. He has pneumonia. I say, "okay so prescribe an antibiotic and off we will go" He said, oh I was going to send him to Children's to be admitted. And I say "oh heck no, he is fine and manageable to go home" After much reassurance that I can care for my child at home he is not sure what abx to write for b/c Avery is allergic to a few. SO he prescribes amox. which is not going to do the trick and tells me to call the ped. in the morning to switch. Hello, my pedi does not like prescribing anything for Avery and relies on Children's. Ugh. He would not even write a script for his vanco which he is to get everytime he is on a abx to prevent his c-diff from returning. So we are home but i sure have to make a ton of calls in the morning. I so should have an automatic med. degree.

Hopefully, this is as bad as he gets for this illness. It is certainly time for him to see a pulmonologist though. So much for my drs. strike huh.

Sending many thoughts of "this is the worst of it" your way. Hoping that Avery pulls through this one quickly.

Hey, sorry Avery is sick. Hope you can find some useful doctors for him, and that this proves to be a short sickness.
Sophie had a close call with a car in the neighbours driveway a couple of days ago. I guess the breaks failed or something, and it rolled back down the slope and crashed in to the wall. She got caught up between the car and the wall somehow, although thankfully not where it hit. She just got nasty grazes all down her left arm. it got pretty bruised and swollen, but wasn't broken. it was scary, but it could have been a lot worse.

Anyway, here's to getting to stay home with your kids. I hope you all have a good week.

Alison.
