In the hospital that is.......
So we went to the pedi. as planned and showed him Avery's central line site which did not look to good as it was oozing a bit today. He also sounded quite crappy which I was not overly concerned with b/c it can be baseline for Avery.
The dr. had done his homework and made alot of calls prior to today's visit to see how we can keep things managed on an outpatient basis rather being hospitalized all the time, which sounded great to me. We were starting to put the plan in place by swabbing his central line site and running blood cultures and starting a broad spectrum IV antibiotic until the cultures came back. Sounds great and thorough, huh...
So you would think........................
When all of a sudden we are talking and here something drop on the floor and look to see what it was.....................................................................
Avery's GJ feeding tube. OMG!!!!!! This has NEVER happened in the 2.5yrs he has had it. So now we HAVE to go to the hospital to have it replace which does not happen at night and you have to hope to get on the schedule for the next day. Avery cannot get any meds without his tube if he is home to it is a no-brainer that we are heading in. At the same time they can do everything we were going to do at the drs. office too.
Avery actually looks pretty good and I honestly don't think the line is infected just really irritated. But we have to be on the safeside b/c he did have the fungus before and we have to rule it out. The poor pedi. I think he is regretting his decision to take on Mr. Avery.... I almost had to laugh b/c it was just crazy how he was trying so hard to keep Avery out of the hospital and something as unexpected as his j tube coming out happened.
I really think this will be a short stay. Hopefully a new tube placed tomorrow and negative blood cultures and home we go.

So sorry you are back in. I hope it is a quick stay.
oh those GJ tubes...Kennedy pulled hers out one day, went and got it put back in...then the very next morning I accidentally pulled it out and we had to go back. Ours were luckily both early in the morning so we really didnt have to wait, except that its a 90min drive.
Hope he gets his in the morning, no problems with it...and the rest of the stuff comes back ok and his line looks better!
