As predicted Avery was admitted on Sat. He was just not turning the corner as I'd hope he would, until he finally got a bed on the ICU unit. The hospital has been so busy since the start of school. The Dr. That I had been communicating with all week told me that there were no beds on the ICU & ICP units (which is where Avery has to go b/c of bipap). There was a chance he would get transferred to another hospital. Of course I was freaking out. The thought I going to a hospital that doesn't know Avery scares me to death. When we arrived at the ER Avery was really working to breath but within a half an hr he was as good as new. Of course that's when they told us they had an ICU bed for him. I did contemplate going home but then I realized the alternative was six 10 yrs girls at my house for Janessa's birthday sleepover so I figured I let Rick handle that one, lol.

Avery had a great night and we had our walking papers by 8am which is very rare. As usual he had other plans decided to hang on for a little longer. He was pretty respiratory all day and kept his nurse very busy. In rounds we talked about how frequently Avery has been inpatient lately as it has been alot. While I was thinking it was from school and getting used to the other kids, the attending brought up another great point. The one I keep putting off...Avery's curve in his back is so severe that is is really limiting his lung space and may be contributing more to his frequent respiratory issues. I think he is so right. He gave me the good, bad and the ugly of the surgery. I felt better about the possibility and benefits for Avery. It is not going to be easy and it may be a month or so of difficulties but the benefits after are so much for Avery. I have been teetering with this decision bc it's the biggest decision we will make for him yet. I gave the appt. With ortho in a couple of weeks and I'm anxious to hear his thoughts. I wish life wasn't so hard sometimes :(
