Avery just gave me a my nurse a HUGE scare. He has not been right since yesterday and we have not been able to foot our finger on it. He was so very junky all day today and he gets panicky about not being able to clear his secretions. His secretions are very thick right now and even with suctioning he is still not clearing. We decided to put him on the bipap machine for a nap and he freak (even with ativan). Once we settled him down and he had it on, he was sleeping and breathing VERY shallow and was satting between 81-83% with 5 liters of o2. He was very pale and blue around the lips. I had my fingers on the phone to dial 911 and the nurse was arousing him and repositioned the mask and he came up to 98% and has been fine since. He is still sleeping and satting well.
I am nervous of how he is going to be when he wakes up. Hopefully he is back to baseline. Again, bag is already pack and if he starts out like this at all for bedtime then we will be off to the hospital.
No rest for the worry.
