Still here!!!!

We were actually supposed to be discharged on Sat (papers in hand and all) but we would have definetly had a repeat of the last time only we would have not even made it to the gas station.  Avery is still very junky and poops out so easily.  By 3p in the afternoon he is just a hot mess with high O2 requirements on his bipap and terrible blood gases and lactates (which all show he is tiring out).  He almost seems worse respiratory than when he came in. He was switch from IV antibiotics(abx) to tube form on thurs. and seemed to get sicker so they switched him back to IV.  They are questioning whether he is absorbing his meds through his gut is why they switched him back. 

He is still running on the dry side and his kidney numbers have showing the same (which are also worse than when he came in). There is question on whether the extra fluid in the IV abx (extra 200ccs) are helping him and so when they were converted to tube form he got more respiratory b/c he was losing another 200cc of fluids.  His secretions got thicker and he was producing a ton more and just working really hard to breath.  He seems to be in a vicious cycle of being respiratory, sweating profusely which then dries him out.  I really don't think he is sick with an infection as nothing has ever come back showing that.  Also he has a really horrible rash on his bum and back so the poor kid has been miserable today.  So as you can see we still have some issues to work out before getting discharged. 

Of course it could not have come at a worse time b/c Rick is out of town for a few days. It is the end of the work month for me and I have tons of stuff to do to close out the month.  Unfortunately, Avery will be hanging at the hospital a lot by himself this week b/c it is going to be too crazy (which makes me really sad ).  This is the really hard part about having sick kids and trying to balance it all.  I'm sure it will all work out in the end and I don't want to take him home prematurely only to head right back to the hospital, it's just going to be a tough week.
