We have quickly settled into a routine.  It is always overwhelming at first with any new diagnosis with the boys, especially something like diabetes.  Once the shock of it is over then it is not all that bad.  Isaiah's sugars have quickly stabilized on the low dose of insulin.  Although the poor kid HATES HATES to get the finger sticks (every 4 hrs.) and is actually a bit traumatized by it.  It really stresses him out and breaks your heart.  He just never cries unless something is really hurt and he cries at times when we are sticking him.  So that part definetly sucks.  Hopefully we can start reducing his sticks to 2-3 times a day since his levels have been good.

Avery has been great lately.  He went for a full vision evaluation and was declared legally blind (yet another diagnosis).  However, this one did not bother me as much b/c I know he sees fine.  This kid does not miss a beat, but hey if it gives us a tax deduction then whatever!!!!

Other than that things have been pretty good.  Janessa is just so excited about the impending dog.  We have actually starting look online at a couple of breeds.  I have to admit that as crazy as it is adding a dog to this house, I am actually excited too.  I think once we get over the training and everything else that goes with it, it will be a great addition to the family.  The boys will love it too.

My son has had diabetes for 8 yrs. We have found the accucheck multiclix to be the kindest poker.

A website which might be of help is www.childrenwithdiabetes.com. There are also message boards on that site - lately they have been raving about tiniboy lancets (which can fit in any poker).

Hope these ideas will be useful to lessen the pain for your son.

Hey, glad everything has settled down a bit. The dog offer is always open, if you're interested.

Alison.
